Latvian Association for Language Teachers (LALT)LALT is a roof organisation uniting language teachers working in different organisations. The organisation was founded in 2001 by English, German, French language teachers’ associations, later it was joined by Latvian language and literature association, Latvian as Second language association and Russian language and literature teachers’ association. In 2006/2007 the association expanded again, and now Italian Language teachers’ association, Public Service language centre and Centre for Nordic studies also belong to LALT. As LALT is a member of World Language Teacher’s Federation (FIPLV), all the members of our organisation are also members of FIPLV. In June 15-16, 2007 we could meet language teachers from more than 20 countries from Africa, America, Asia and Europe as they arrived in Riga for the occasion of Nordic- Baltic language teachers’ conference. The main events of LALT are the annual European Language days and the biannual Public Speaking Contest. All the members of LALT and their students are cordially invited to participate in the work of LALT. At the beginning of every year LALT organises its general annual meeting where its members review the achieved and plan the future activities.
